Evoking a fairy tale escape, this wee plunge pool was customised at every step to nestle neatly into the client’s garden without dominating the space with either size, colour, or materials. If ever a pool blended effortlessly into its surroundings, this is the one.

This client had a beautiful vision for a small plunge pool nestled into their garden; something they could use year-round – for cooling off in summer with a cocktail in hand, or for a delicious hot soak in winter; i.e. the perfect private retreat.

To make their dreams a reality, good heating and insulation were a paramount for keeping the temperature refreshing in summer and maintaining the heat in the cooler months. The seating also had to be measured to just the right depth so it was easy enough to reach for another sip, yet still be sitting submerged while enjoying the pool.

They also were after a very particular colour pool reminiscent of the pristine Lake Taupō waters, which pool builder Plateau Pools ended up getting custom made by our expert fibreglass composites team. Plateau Pools call it 'pumice' in honour of the famous local volcanic geology.

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia. My love of pristine environments led me to New Zealand and eventually to the mountains, lakes and rivers of the central North Island which is home.
